HorseGirlTV supports Wounded Warrior Project

September 26, 2008

I recently auctioned my Dehner dress boots online in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. The idea was simple, auction the boots, take the winning money and write a check to WWP! What happened was far more than I envisioned.

With a failing economy, I didn’t expect the boots to fetch a large sum but something was better than nothing. Long story short, the auction closed, the boots sold, even without huge expectations I was bummed they came in so low. I emailed the winner and through our correspondences discovered she is serving in the US Army and she is currently deployed to Afghanistan! Woah! That way hit home for me!

That was only the tip of the iceberg, the winner (Diane) said she’d expected to pay much more for them and wanted to know if I was ok with her offering more. I was honored and needless to say, quite emotional at her generosity. Here I was thinking I was going to do a little good for a great project and the person truly giving back just so happened to be a service member already giving so much!

I could go on and on about this and how special the whole thing turned out to be but bottom line the person to thank on many levels is Diane (pictured below IN Afghanistan).

It’s with tear-filled eyes I type a sincere thank you to Diane for such a generous winning bid on my Dehner dress boots. I thank you too for your service!

The auction inspired a few more folks not in need of dress boots that have pledged to send in checks and I hope to ultimately donate a little under $500 to WWP!

More Oktoberfest Picts!

September 16, 2008

The winner of the HorseGirlTV sponsored Open Working Hunter Derby at Oktoberfest Show in Auburn, WA was kind enough to pass along a photo of herself taken with our banner! Congratulations Justine and Fashionable!!!!!!

Lots of interest in the show AND me!

September 16, 2008

Without giving too much away (non-disclosures and all), I have three large-scale media groups interested in partnering/merging/acquiring (or whatever adjective you’d like to inject to denote “coming together” or “joining the team”) with HorseGirlTV! The short version of this is they all have requested a CV (resume for us stateside) so I’ve had a wicked fun time bringing my archaic CV into the 21st century this afternoon and wanted to share it!

What fun! What fun!

HorseGirlTV Fans Meet Tommy Turvey!

September 8, 2008

HorseGirlTV is making a pretty strong name for itself. I just received an email from a fan who was wearing her HorseGirlTV t-shirt at a hunter/jumper show in the Pacific Northwest this past weekend and while riding around on her golf cart someone saw her tee and commented “Horsegirltv, I watch it all the time.” which to hear this is just too much fun and too flattering to me!

About a month ago some other HorseGirlTV fans were donning their t-shirts at the Wild Horse Expo out west. The mom and daughter pair were lucky enough to chat with horseman, Tommy Turvey, and talk about training. They emailed to tell me how awesome Tommy was and how down home and friendly he was and willing to simply chat with them. They also included this picture of them with Tommy while wearing their HorseGirlTV tees! Thanks ladies!!!!! This is simply fabulous!

Homemade fruit cobbler

September 6, 2008

Ex and I baked this really simple, yet supremely tastey fruit cobbler!

INGREDIENTS
4 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
2 cups of sliced fresh peaches OR whole blueberries OR a combination of fruits
1 tablespoon sugar

DIRECTIONS
Adjust oven rack to upper-middle position, and heat oven to 350 degrees.

Put butter in an 8-inch square or 9-inch round pan; set in oven to melt. When butter has melted, remove pan from oven.

Whisk flour, 3/4 cup of sugar, baking powder and salt in small bowl. Add milk; whisk to form a smooth batter. Pour batter into pan, then scatter fruit over batter. Sprinkle with remaining 1 Tb. of sugar.

Bake until batter browns and fruit bubbles, 50 to 60 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature with a dollop of whipped cream or a small scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.

Picollo post surgery

September 4, 2008

Picollo had his teeth cleaned (dental prophy) which required anesthesia and he was quite groggy afterwards. 🙁

I was so verbally specific, NO RABIES shot for Picollo but they slid it into the paperwork anyway which I signed, pre-coffee, on a verbal that it covered “dental prophy, one tooth extraction and pain meds” so Picollo has enough rabies vaccine to cover his for his entire life now! Doh!

I will probably be one of those parents that opposes vaccinations and the system in general!
