I recently auctioned my Dehner dress boots online in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. The idea was simple, auction the boots, take the winning money and write a check to WWP! What happened was far more than I envisioned.
With a failing economy, I didn’t expect the boots to fetch a large sum but something was better than nothing. Long story short, the auction closed, the boots sold, even without huge expectations I was bummed they came in so low. I emailed the winner and through our correspondences discovered she is serving in the US Army and she is currently deployed to Afghanistan! Woah! That way hit home for me!
That was only the tip of the iceberg, the winner (Diane) said she’d expected to pay much more for them and wanted to know if I was ok with her offering more. I was honored and needless to say, quite emotional at her generosity. Here I was thinking I was going to do a little good for a great project and the person truly giving back just so happened to be a service member already giving so much!
I could go on and on about this and how special the whole thing turned out to be but bottom line the person to thank on many levels is Diane (pictured below IN Afghanistan).
It’s with tear-filled eyes I type a sincere thank you to Diane for such a generous winning bid on my Dehner dress boots. I thank you too for your service!
The auction inspired a few more folks not in need of dress boots that have pledged to send in checks and I hope to ultimately donate a little under $500 to WWP!
